A-Style Mandolin
The classic A-Style Mandolin is a well-established design, available with either F-style or oval sound-holes. The “F” holes provide a more projective and percussive tone, while the oval hole produces a warmer bass response and mellower tone. These are available in Natural or traditional sunburst.
Asymmetrical 2-Point Mandolins
The Asymmetrical 2-Point Mandolin is a unique design combining aesthetics from vintage turn-of-the-century designs with modern elements. These are available with a more modern sounhole design or the more traditional oval soundhole. There are tonal differences similar to the a-style mandolins using f-holes or oval soundholes.
Flat Top Mandolins
The Flat Top Mandolin is the simplest design Gernandt offers, inspired by Bob’s custom built Irish Bouzoukis. Referred to affectionately as a “Baby Bouzouki,” this mandolin has a full, open tone, making it particularly popular with Irish and old-time musicians. Unlike carved top mandolins, the flat top variety provides a rich sound due to its construction.
Octave Mandolins
Gernandt octave mandolins were created from the same body mold as the Irish Bouzouki. The body depth was reduced by 1″ and incorporating a 20.75″ scale length. This created a more compact instrument allowing for an easier transition for mandolin players to step up to a larger instrument. As the name implies, they are tuned one octave below standard mandolin pitch.
Mandocellos
Gernandt Mandocellos feature a 16″ wide body with a 25″ scale length. They have a full rich voice with plenty of “fill the room ” sustain. Tuned to CC,GG,DD,AA one octave below the Mandola.
Custom ten-string versions in either 23.5 and 25″scale length are available upon request. This combines the Octave Mandolin and mandocello into one instrument. These can also be tuned DD,GG,DD,AA,DD or GG,DD,GG,DD,GG depending on string gauges used.
