Mountain Dulcimers - Other Dulcimers

A diatonic fret scale makes the mountain dulcimer a great instrument for playing melodies. These stringed acoustic instruments produce a sweet, soothing sound, and are one of the easiest stringed instruments to play. Anyone who can hum a tune or sing a song can easily learn to play it on the dulcimer, yet it is not limited to this basic playing style. Trained dulcimer musicians demonstrate the wide range of styles and tonal character these instruments can produce.

Bob Gernandt offers four Standard Models of hand made mountain dulcimers, with each model having its own distinct voice and tone - the Concert Dulcimer, Hourglass Dulcimer, Teardrop Dulcimer, and other dulcimers.

The Mini Dulcimer

The Mini Dulcimer was designed by Bob in the late 1970's for it's compact and portable size. It has a 17.5-inch scale length, which does not allow for easy tuning of standard pitch tunings. The tuning intervals can be the same as full sized dulcimers, but the tuning will be in an alternate key (example: d-a-d will become e-a-e). Most people use this model for a carry around everywhere dulcimer, ready for practice, or as an alternate tuned instrument.

The Mini Dulcimer comes standard with a three string arrangement (single melody, single middle, single bass). Bob Gernandt makes each and every hand crafted instrument unique with wood selection, inlay and other details. All dulcimers come with the six and one half fret. Additional frets are available on request.
